About

Hildur Ása Henrýsdóttir (b. 1987) grew up in Þórshöfn in Langanes peninsula. She graduated with BA in Modern Studies from the University of Akureyri in 2012. In 2016 she graduated from the Fine Art department in the Iceland Academy of the Arts. She lives and works in Reykjavík.

Hildur works with different mediums like painting, drawing, sculpture, installation and photographs. In her works she focuses on emotions and existential, internal conflicts. She also ponders on how the external world shapes individuals and influences their experiences.

Her self-portraits oscillate between introspection and self-criticism, typically in a melancholic yet humorous way. The manner in which she paints herself is both harsh and vulnerable, but also honest.
